Your personal leadership journey...

The LEADERSHIP ACADEMY is a certificate program designed to give you the training, skills, coaching, and experiences necessary to grow as an effective and successful student and leader.

The LEADERSHIP ACADEMY program supports what you are already doing in your classroom bubble, school, home, and in your community.

ENGAGE - BUILD - ACHIEVE

The Leadership Academy is a Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, Ascend Leadership program to enable students to develop the confidence, tools, competencies, and skills to be successful in the classroom and beyond.

Spiritual Care and Guidance, and Community Involvement Animators, Pedagogical Services facilitate the Leadership Academy.

Step 1: Join & participate with a leadership group:

  • Join a leadership group or team at your school (grades 5-11).

  • You can participate within a class.

  • You can participate with a community organizations like Cadets, sports teams, arts group, youth group, etc.

  • The Leadership Academy program is FREE. Trips and activities that you choose to participate within your bubble, at school, within the SWLSB, or with outside organizations may have a related costs.

Step 2: REGISTER HERE. Follow our Instagram or Facebook for the latest info!

Step 3: Participate and complete each stage at your own speed. Learn from the support and mentorship opportunities as you take on new challenges and succeed on a timeline that works for you in your school bubble, at home, or in your community.

Step 4: Complete your online leadership logbook regularly to record your experiences and chart your self-directed growth.

Step 5: Build your 'Leadership Academy CV' and receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold certification in June at the annual Model the Way Honours.

*Ceremonies and in person groups, training and events are subject to your own health and safety measures and all current COVID-19 protocols as determined by MEES.

CERTIFICATES

Once registered; your training, materials, coaching and other supports will be available through TEAMS and Google Classroom.

You work at your own pace, in your school or home 'bubble'.

Complete the criteria with a coach on time.

BRONZE

Half of a School Year

4-6 month participation

  • Ongoing Personal Growth Assessment

  • 3 Training Sessions

  • Teamwork (1 month min)

  • Participate in 1 School Community Event

  • Demonstrate competencies in collaboration, critical thinking, communication.

  • Citizenship 10 hours minimum

SILVER

1 School Year

8-10 month participation

  • Ongoing Personal Growth Assessment

  • 5 Training Sessions

  • Teamwork (2-4 month min)

  • 2 Experiences leading (activities / public speaking / digital tools)

  • Participate in 2 Community Events

  • Demonstrate competencies in collaboration, critical thinking, communication, innovation & problem solving.

  • Citizenship 40 hours minimum

GOLD

Multiple School Years

14-16 month participation

  • Ongoing Personal Growth Assessment

  • 12 Training Sessions

  • Teamwork progression

  • 6 Experiences leading (activities / public speaking / digital tools)

  • Participate in 5 Community Events

  • Active Mentor relationship

  • Demonstrate competencies in collaboration, critical thinking, communication, innovation & problem solving, information management.

  • Citizenship 60 hours minimum
